Directing Delhi government to pay the amount to the victim within six weeks, a bench of justices Kailash Gambhir and Indermeet Kaur said "this court directs that the State shall pay to the victim the sum of Rs 3,00,000 as victim compensation in terms of Rule 3 and 5 under the Delhi Victims Compensation Scheme read with Section 357-A of the Criminal Procedure Code."
"The terms of the scheme entitle every rape victim to minimum compensation of Rs 2,00,000 and a maximum compensation of Rs 3,00,000. Having regard to the facts of the case and the tender age of the victim, the government of NCT is directed to pay the said maximum amount to the victim.....," the bench also said and directed the Delhi Legal Services Authority (DLSA), which is the designated body under the said scheme, to ensure the implementation of the court's directions.
However, the bench has modified the May, 2010, order on sentence and reduced the punishment from life imprisonment to 10 years jail term to Beeru.
According to the prosecution, the victim had visited her aunt's(mausi) place here in June 2007. In the absence her aunt, the uncle had raped her and also threatened her not to disclose about the incident to anybody, as per the prosecution.
