HC asks govt if it's serious on contempt action agnst Bainsla

"Government wants to buy peace at one end and holds fire after putting a gun on the shoulder of court. That can't be allowed," said Justice M C sharma to Additional Advocate General N A Naquvi.

The single bench also asked Director General of Police to appear in person and file a detailed affidavit as to how many persons had died during Gurjar agitation.

The contempt petition was filed in 2008 against Bainsla for flouting an order not to indulge in violence and disrupt public life issued by the court on an application filed by the state government in September, 2007.

The court was, however, annoyed that on one hand the government was pressing for action against Bainsla and at the same time it was holding meetings with over quota issue.
