HC direction sought to remove Karu

: MDMK today sought a direction from Madras High court bench to remove a certain species of trees, which it alleged was ruining the ecosystem of Tamil Nadu and for the authorities concerned to abide by its order of 2013 in this regard
MDMK General Secretary Vaiko in his petition sought a direction from the Court to Collectors of 13 districts in South Tamil Nadu to submit a scientific report on the remedial measures taken in respect of 'environmental damage' by 'Karuvelam' trees (Prosopis Juliflora), as also steps taken to remove them.
He submitted that the tree damaged the entire eco system and also turned fertile lands barren. It destroyed water sources and also occuppied irrigation tanks and rivers.Besides it did not allow other crops to grow, he submitted.
