The Madras High Court today directed the state public works department to complete all civic works in its Madurai bench in May enabling handing over of security to CISF.
When the matter came up, the first bench, comprising Chief Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice M M Sundresh, said "PWD to ensure to collaborate with the Registry of the Court that all necessary civic works are completed during the month of May 2016 at Madurai Bench."
Advocate General A L Somayaji submitted that the government order with regard to recurring expenses on account of extension of CISF security cover to the Principal bench is under process.
Su. Sreenivasan, Assistant Solicitor General, who appeared on behalf of the union government, submitted that the government order with regard to the extension of CISF security to the Principal bench has been issued.
He submitted that the recommendation made by the Registrar General of the Madras High Court for an amount of Rs.17,92,94,460/- has been sent to the state government on which it has to pass an order.
After recording the submission of Somayaji and issuing the direction to PWD, the bench posted the matter for further hearing to June 20.
The court had in October last ordered the CISF cover as a temporary arrangement on a suo motu PIL initiated after the court witnessed unruly scenes and obstruction caused by lawyers over certain issues.
The court had taken up the issue after lawyers created a ruckus while agitating for declaration of Tamil as official language of the court and over contempt of court proceedings against two Madurai-based Bar association leaders.
It had overruled objections by Tamil Nadu government to handing over security to CISF or any agency other than state police.
On April 13, the court had extended by another six months Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) cover for the court campus here.
