HC directive to law varsity on lowering intake

The Madras High Court bench here has directed the Tamil Nadu Dr.Ambedkar Law University to produce the resolution reportedly passed at its syndicate meet to reduce the intake of students to 104 from 180 due to lack of infrastructure.
Justices A.Selvam and N.Authinathan, hearing a PIL, wondered how a state institution could say shotrage of funds and lack of infrastructure as a reason for reducing the intake.
They directed the univeristy officials to produce the so called resolution by next week.
Petitioner's counsel R.Alagumani said private universities were charging exhorbitantly for law courses and the students were not getting admission in the state-run institute also.
University counsel V.Meenakshi Sundaram said the intake was reduced because of unavailability of infrastructure to accommodate higher number of students and lack of funds to create the infrastructure.
The decision to reduce the intake was taken by syndicate represented by eminent men incuding sitting judge of Madras High Court.
