A division bench comprising Justices A Selvam and Athinathan passed the order on a PIL filed by one Karthick.
The petitioner submitted that Thiruparankundram Murugan temple is an important and famous place of worship, visited by lakhs of people from across the country and other parts of the world.
The indiscriminate encroachments cause inconvenience to the devotees who find it difficult to walk around the hill, to fulfill their vow, he alleged.
Hence, the petitioner prayed for a court direction to the Madurai District Collector and City Corporation Commissioner to clear the encroachments and restore the road to its original width.
