The Madras High Court today clarified that if a counter affidavit on posting of women police inspectors in Civil Supplies Criminal Investigation Department (CSCID) was not filed before it by January 9, 2017, the state DGP should remain present in court on that day.
When the matter came up before the First Bench, comprising Chief Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice M Sunder, the Additional Advocate General sought some more time to produce all relevant records in this connection and to file a counter.
Acceding to the request, the bench said if the counter is not filed by January 9, then the DGP shall be present in the Court. It then posted the matter for next hearing on the same date.
Earlier, when the matter came up, the AAG, who appeared on behalf of the state government, had submitted that DGP, CSCID on November 6, 2013, already stated that women officers will not be in a position to travel the entire jurisdiction of revenue districts and conduct raids at odd hours.
In response, the bench had ruled that the approach adopted in connection with the postings of women inspectors was unacceptable.
On November 21 last, the High Court had initiated suo motu proceedings into the matter.
