Observing that PILs are meant for people who can't directly approach a court, the Madras High Court today dismissed a plea for a CBI probe into the attack on the residence of actor-turned-politician S Ve Shekhar.
A bench comprising Justices R Subramanian and M Dhandapani said Shekhar, a BJP leader, did not fall under the category of people who do not have access to courts.
The public interest litigation was filed by an advocate seeking transfer of investigation by the police to the CBI or CB-CID into the alleged vandalisation of Shekhar's house here by a group of journalists while protesting against him over a post he had shared in a social media demeaning women scribes.
Alleging that the journalists had taken the law into their hands, the petitioner said they had acted like fringe groups and sought transfer of the probe into the case.
