The Madras High Court today permitted a woman resident of West Bengal, claiming to be a native of Tamil Nadu from the backward community, sans any proof, to attend the ongoing MBBS counselling in the general category.

While giving the direction, Justice S Vaidyanathan, however, directed the authorities to reject her claim if she insisted that her case be considered in the reserved category.

S Aiswarya, claiming to be a native of Tamil Nadu, submitted that she did her entire schooling in West Bengal.

She contended that as per the terms of the MBBS-BDS 2018-19 prospectus, she was entitled to apply for admission in Tamil Nadu colleges and did so.

But since she failed to enclose nativity certificate or any other document to prove that she was a native of Tamil Nadu, the selection committee rejected her application.

She then moved the high court, contending that non-furnishing of enclosures would not defeat her claim.

Admitting the plea, as an interim measure, the court permitted her to participate in the counselling.
