The HC was hearing a PIL filed by prominent citizens against the ongoing construction of a war memorial on the northern side of the historic tank. It was contended in the PIL that the construction ofa war memorial would destroy the heritage of the tank.
The high court vacation judge Justice Rumi Kumari Phukan after hearing the petition yesterday directed the state respondents to maintain status quo on any construction and posted the case for listing after reopening of the court on January 18.
