The Delhi High Court today refused to further hear a PIL seeking implementation of the 2010 National Road Safety Policy to ensure safety and welfare of road users saying the grievances can be put before a panel to be headed by an apex court judge.
"The Supreme Court has already decided to constitute a committee headed by Hon'ble Justice K S Radhakrishnan. You can seek intervention there," a bench of Chief Justice G Rohini and Justice Pradeep Nandrajog said while disposing of the PIL on the issue.
Justice Radhakrishnan, who will demit office on May 14, will be heading the panel on the issue of road safety.
Earlier, the court, on January 29, had issued notice and sought a reply from Ministry of Road Transport and Highways on the PIL filed by Rajiv Boolchand Jain.
Besides the Centre, the PIL had made National Highway Authority of India and Himachal Pradesh Public Works Department as parties.
"The Government of India should consider time-bound implementation of National Road Safety Policy, 2010 by establishing the National Road Safety Board and the National Road Safety fund," it had said.
It has also sought a direction to the authorities to devise measures for effective implementation of the policy to ensure safety and security of road users especially rural folks who are not familiar with the traffic rules.
The PIL has also sought a CBI inquiry against Himachal Pradesh Public Works Department for alleged rampant corruption in the use of allocated funds.
