The Delhi High Court today reserved its order on a PIL seeking direction to appoint more Urdu teachers in schools here.
A bench of Chief Justice G Rohini and Justice R S Endlaw said it will consider the plea and pass an order after going through the material available before it.
The court further said that it will give directions in regard to the steps needed to be taken by the government.
The court was hearing a PIL filed by lawyer Mushtaq Ahmad on behalf of NGO Shiksha Seva Samiti and some other societies with the request that appointment of Urdu teachers may be made like that of other teachers, that all vacancies of Urdu teachers must be filled up and Urdu schools which have been closed down should be reopened and teachers appointed there.
In the petition, the court was also requested to direct the Delhi government to instruct all Urdu medium schools here to maintain an advance register so that Urdu could be opted as a subject.
The plea also requested that books of all subjects be provided in Urdu medium.
Earlier, the high court had sought an answer from Delhi government as to why the appointment of Urdu teachers was not being made like other teachers.
Delhi Municipal Corporation in its affidavit had stated that it will soon bring out advertisements for the recruitment and appointment of Urdu teachers according to rules.
