HC upholds decision to quash notification of 8 govt colleges

Himachal Pradesh High Court today upheld the state government's decision to close eight colleges opened by the previous regime without proper infrastructure and directed it to make a prospective plan for opening new educational institutions in the state.
A division bench comprising Chief Justice A M Khanwilakar and Justice Kuldeep Singh observed that the decision to close the colleges was right due to lack of infrastructure as each of these eight new colleges were started in three to five room sets.
Such arrangement was carved out only to honour the directions given by the then Chief Minister and arrangements inevitably hampered the quality of education imparted in the colleges, the court in its order said while disposing eight petitions.

The previous BJP government had opened eight colleges through notifications issued on different dates between June 23 and September 6, 2012 in Rewalsar, Nihri, Ladbharol, Baldwara, Sarahan, Nankhari, Solan and Kotla Behar.
The petitioners had alleged that decision to close the colleges was taken by the state government with political vendetta and not in good faith.
