The Patna High Court today warned the vice chancellors and registrars of all universities in Bihar that their salaries may be withheld for not making timely payment of pension and post retiral benefits to teaching and non-teaching staff.
A division bench of Chief Justice Rajendra Menon and Justice Anil Kumar Upadhyay issued show cause notices to VCs and registrars of all universities asking them to explain by January 4 next year as to why their salary should not withheld for failing to make timely payment of pension and post retiral benefits to teaching and non-teaching staff.
The bench was hearing a PIL filed by Krishna Kant Sinha, a retired teacher of B R A Bihar University, Muzaffarpur, seeking direction to the university to make timely payment of pension and post retirement benefits.
The petitioner has submitted that the university takes a long time to clear the payments.
Notably, on September 8 this year, the court while hearing the petition, had asked the state government to hold a meeting with principal secretary of education department and other senior officials to chalk out a plan to clear the post retiral dues within 30 days.
On this, the state government counsel said that universities have furnished incomplete information to the government in this regard.
The court posted the matter for next hearing on January 4, 2018.
