Jalandhar (rural) SP D Rajinder Singh said that head constable Sanjeev Kumar had last night sexually abused the boy at his residence in the Maksuda police station area.
The boy's family are tenants at the accused's residence and his parents hail from Uttar Pradesh, Singh added.
"Kumar has been dismissed for sexually abusing the boy last night," Jalandhar police commissioner Gaurav Yadav said, adding that the accused has been arrested.
The accused was caught in the act by neighbours who were drawn to his residence by the boy's cries at night, police added.
