"We have issued a severe heat wave condition in the state, especially in the coastal districts which will continue for the next 24 hours," Director of IMD Bhubaneswar, Sarat Chandra Sahu told reporters.
The day temperature in Bhubaneswar suddenly shot up to 44 degrees Celsius from 41.7 degree Celsius yesterday. However, the relative humidity which cause a lot of sweat, dropped to 66 per cent from yesterday's 88 per cent.
Sahu said heat wave conditions still prevail in most parts of northern, western and central India and the wind flow from these regions towards Odisha has triggered the heat wave conditions in the state.
There is possibility of fall in temperature tomorrow, he said, adding, it will gradually come down from June 12 night.
At Chandbali in coastal Bhadrak district the temperature was 43 degrees Celsius, while Balasore recorded 41.2 degrees Celsius.
Other places which recorded above 40 degree Celsius-mark were Sambalpur (42.9), Angul (42.7), Jharsuguda (42.6), Talcher (42.2), Balangir (42), Baripada (41.8), Hirakud (41.7), Sundergarh and Titlagarh (41), Dhenkanal (40.7) and Bhawanipatna (40.2).
A report from the Special Relief Commissioner's office said the toll due to sunstroke in the state remained unchanged at 41.
