Heroin worth Rs 50 crore seized along Indo-Pak border

Ten packets of heroin, worth around Rs 50 crore in the international market, were seized today near Dharma Seema check post in Firozpur sector along the Indo-Pak border, BSF officials said here.
Inspector General of BSF, Punjab Frontier, Anil Agarwal said the force's personnel noticed smugglers throwing packets of the contraband near the check-post in the wee hours.
The smugglers opened fire when the jawans challenged them and fled the spot when the personnel retaliated in self-defence, he said.
Besides ten packets of heroin, weighing one kg each, the jawans recovered four pistols, seven magazines, 95 cartridges upon searching the spot, Agarwal said.

The BSF has recovered 258 kg of heroin along international border in Punjab this year so far, of which 64 kg of contraband was recovered in the last 12 days, the official said.
