Several hi-tech gadgets and equipment like Advanced Life Detector used by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel has proved to be very successful in locating and rescuing victims from under the piles of debris at the building collapse site here.
"Our Advanced Life Detector sends out Electromagnetic waves and it alerts (us) if it detects life," NDRF Commandant M K Verma supervising rescue work at the site told PTI.
The "camera with extended probe" which looks like a rod could be inserted into openings and the device would send images from beneath. The visuals can be seen on a square shaped box mounted on the rod.
It also supports two-way communication. The rescuers could hear sounds from victims and can talk back to them as it is fitted with a microphone, a speaker and LED lights. The camera can rotate 360 degrees.
Seismic Sensors can capture vibrations in earth, wall or debris and through microphones it would also resonate sounds of humans.
Thermal Imaging Cameras send out infrared rays which could penetrate rubble, concrete or other obstacles and images can be seen on the screen on such cameras.
"It is not the equipment alone. The dedicated personnel of several State agencies including the NDRF, Fire and Rescue, Police commandos and Home Guards are working relentlessly to rescue the victims", he said.
As regards the NDRF, 10 "Urban Search and Rescue" teams have been deployed to rescue the victims and work is continuing into the fifth day today.
