The incident occurred when the prisoner, identified as Sheikh Abdul Nayeem aka Sameer, son of Abdul Karim of Maharashtra's Aurangabad, was being taken to Mumbai from the Dum Dum Correctional Home by Mumbai Mail escorted by five police officers, ADG (Prison) Adhir Sharma said.
He was to be put on trial in Mumbai tomorrow, Sharma said.
"The prisoner fled at about 5.45 am in between Korsori and Raigarh stations in Chhattisgarh," Sharma said.
He said that the escort party had been asked to lodge a specific case against escapee the at the nearest GRPS and send intimation to the courts," Sharma said.
