Drop out rates in between class I to VIII was as high as 83 per cent in Bihar and the government is making efforts to check it, state Education minister P K Shahi said today.
Replying to a question of Vinod Kumar Singh in the state legislative council, Shahi said Bihar recorded the highest figure of students leaving schools without completing education in between class I to class VIII.
As per information received from districts in 2011-12, it stood at 83 per cent, he added.
Shahi said as per report of District Information System for Education, in 2011-12 the drop out rate in between Standard I to V was 40.9 per cent, between VI to VIII it was 11.2 per cent and in classes IX to X, nearly 10 per cent students left schools without completing their studies.
The minister said that the government was trying to curtail the drop out rate through recruitment of additional teachers, better training of teachers, mid-day meal scheme, free distribution of books and scholarship to SC, ST and OBC students.
