Fareed (30), who used to deal in drugs and arms, besides property, was murdered last night, police said.
Earlier yesterday, Fareed and his friends had entered his rival Wasim's house and beaten up his parents, they said.
Wasim's parents were badly injured in the incident.
When he came to know of the incident, Wasim, accompanied by his friends, accosted Fareed at Penchbagh area of Bekanganj.
They first attacked him with sharp weapons and then shot him in the chest killing him on the spot, police said.
It appears to be a fallout of gang rivalry and a fight for domination, Verma said, adding raids are being conducted to nab the accused and additional police has been deployed in the area due to prevailing tension.
