Tyron Nazareth, 52, who was stabbed by his rival Joseph Sequeira, 25, in Calangute market yesterday at 11.30 am later succumbed to his injuries in the hospital, said police.
The incident comes four days after Tyron was released on bail for assaulting Joseph two months back.
Joseph is on the run after stabbing Tyron, said police inspector Jivba Dalvi.
Tyron and his friends had assaulted Joseph two months ago due to which he was jailed and later secured bail on June 20.
Dalvi said Joseph was initially booked for attempt to murder but after the hospital informed about Tyron's death the charge has been converted to section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code.
Both Tyron and Joseph had four cases against them at Calangute police station, said police.
"Four different teams have been formed to track Joseph who is currently on the run," Dalvi said.
