"Although the present government has been ensuring social justice to all, the decision to set up this Commission reflects the government's resolve to safeguard the interests of the weaker sections," Scheduled Castes and Backward Classes Welfare Minister Geeta Bhukkal said.

She said the state government has already implemented a number of schemes to enhance educational and socio-economic status of members belonging to Scheduled Castes.

She said the state government has recently set up a Human Rights Commission and a State Commission for Women.
