Having carved a niche for himself with unconventional romantic 'journeys' on screen, filmmaker Imtiaz Ali says he hopes to make a movie with the 'king of romance' Shah Rukh Khan someday.
Imtiaz, who made his directorial debut with "Socha Na Tha" 10 years ago, propelled to fame with his critically and commercially successful "Jab We Met" in 2007.
When asked about the reports that he would be collaborating with the "Chennai Express" actor, Imtiaz told PTI, "I hope so. I hope to work with Shah Rukh Khan. He is a very positive man. I've spent a lot of time with him. There is nothing confirmed so, I can't make a statement or anything on that."
While Shah Rukh has been part of mushy love stories like "Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayege" and "Kuch Kuch Hota Hai", Imtiaz, 44, has helmed contemporary romances like "Love Aaj Kal" and "Rockstar".
The filmmaker believes their collaboration will be fun.
"It'll be fun. It'll be fun for me at least. 'DDLJ' was a great film, in fact I also liked 'Darr' before that. Although it was on the other side of romance... It was obsession. It was interesting the way the story was told, even what he (Shah Rukh) did in 'Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa', that is one of my favourite movies and also some of his recent films," Imtiaz told PTI.
The "Highway" director feels Shah Rukh, 50, has different shades to him and they both understand the language of each other coming from the same place.
"He has shades... I feel that because he is from Delhi and from my university, we understand the language of each other."
Imtiaz's upcoming movie "Tamasha" stars Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone. The film is scheduled to release on November 27.
