Housing society committee booked for alleged swindling

The managing committee of a co-operative housing society has been booked by the Thane police for allegedly swindling the society's money during its tenure, the police said here today.
Assistant police inspector P M Yejare of the Kolsewadi police station under Kalyan division told PTI that based on a complaint by the auditor for co-operative societies, an offence has been registered under Section 406 read with Section 34 of the Indian Penal Code against 11 members of the managing committee of the society.
Allegedly, 11 members of the managing committee of the Shiv Mangal Co-Operative Housing Society of Teesgaon in Kalyan had swindled Rs 33,38,153 during their tenure, between April 2009 and March 2013, the complaint said.
They had illegally and unauthorisedly made use of money collected from members as monthly maintenance and mobile tower rent charges for their own benefit, the complaint stated.
The police identified the accused managing committee members as society chairman S B Thombre, secretary R N Pillai, treasurer M B Raul, joint secretary G L Pawar, A R Koyande, R R Pal, Mahesh Gogar, Bipin Chandra Patki, Raghu Nair, B T Jadhav and Jayesh Goghar.
The police said that no arrest had been made so far in connection with the case and the case is being probed.
