Days after Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh offered to vacate his Shimla (rural) assembly seat for his son, state youth Congress chief Vikramaditya Singh today sought to play down his father's remarks saying they were made in a "lighter vein".
Addressing a gathering of party workers at his official residence here, the chief minister had proposed the name of son Vikramaditya, who is the president of Himachal Youth Congress, as a probable candidate from Shimla (Rural) constituency for the next Assembly polls, due later this year.
Vikramaditya said that the reaction from various quarters over the remarks of the chief minister was "completely unwarranted and uncalled for" while he clarified that the comments were made in a "lighter vein" while interacting with workers of Shimla (Rural) assembly constituency.
He said that it was for the party to decide regarding his contesting elections and would abide by the decision of the Congress high command.
Vikramaditya said that he was a democratically-elected president of the state youth congress and a loyal worker.
He said that he was ready to shoulder any responsibility given to him by the party high command.
