HP Congress protests K'taka Guv's decision to invite BJP to form govt

The Congress in Himachal Pradesh held statewide demonstrations against Karnataka Governor Vajubhai Vala's decision to invite the BJP to form government in the southern state despite it lacking the requisite numbers.

Congress men protested outside the Raj Bhavan. Thereafter, a delegation led by CLP leader Mukesh Agnihotri and HPCC president Sukhvinder Singh Sukkhu met the governor and submitted a memorandum, opposing the decision of his Karnataka counterpart.

'The developments in Karnataka are of serious nature and the Congress- JD(S) alliance which has an absolute majority has been ignored, and the BJP which failed to win a majority was invited to for government, throwing all the democratic norms to the wind," the memo read.

The Congress workers held demonstrations at district and sub-divisional headquarters to protest the murder of democracy, and alleged that the Karnataka governor acted under pressure from the Narendra Modi government.

They said the Vala's decision was unconstitutional and undemocratic.
