Haryana Congress today sought registration of an FIR over a complaint lodged by Independent candidate R K Anand against the BJP MLA and some others alleging a criminal conspiracy, which led to his defeat in the Rajya Sabha polls.
Congress leaders including party's state chief Ashok Tanwar, CLP leader Kiran Chaudhary along with several party workers and Anand, who contested the Rajya Sabha polls independently, today arrived at sector -3 police station here to inquire about the status of the complaint filed last week.
They were informed that because of deployment of most of its police officials on VVIP duties, no action could be taken on the complaint.
The action on the complaint will be taken in due course of time, police said.
Congress workers also staged a dharna outside the police station.
Anand, who was backed by Congress and INLD, in his complaint to Chandigarh's IGP T S Luthra, has levelled charges against BJP-backed winning independent candidate Subhash Chandra, BJP MLA from Ambala Aseem Goel, Independent MLA Jai Parkash and certain officials from the office of Returning Officer and other unknown persons.
He demanded that they be booked under various Sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and under the provisions of the Representation of the People Act, 1951.
The complainant had sought that FIR be registered against the "accused persons under the relevant provisions of law" and Representation of People Act and other acts and further they be dealt with in accordance with law.
