Crime Branch Police are on the look out for a Kerala-based impostor, who posed himself as an IAS officer in the PMO and cheated a city resident of Rs 43 lakh by promising a MBBS seat for his daughter.
A police team which went to Thrissur looking for Madhu Ganesh Menon, the impostor, arrested his father Sridhar Menon on the charge of abetting his son in the crime, police said today.
Police said they seized an airgun and a letter pad with the government logo among other things from Sridhar Menon.
According to the complaint by the victim Suresh Kumar, Madhu Ganesh demanded Rs.50 lakh for getting an MBBS seat. But he could mobilise only Rs.43 lakh and had given the money to him. However,he did not get the seat for his daughter.
When he asked Madu Ganesh to return the money, he and his father had threatened him with a gun, Kumar said in his complaint lodged with police.
Investigation revealed that Madhu Ganesh had stayed in a posh hotel in the city and had roamed around the city in a siren-fitted car.
He had introduced himself to the visitors as an official in the Prime Minister's Office and had cheated many persons by promising to get them jobs.
Madhu Ganesh had changed his mobile phone number frequently and had spoken in four languages including Tamil, Malayalam, English and Hindhi.
He had also allegedly cheated a student to the tune of Rs. three lakh by promising to get him more marks.
He had asked several people to come to New Delhi and had hosted them in big hotels to win their confidence, police said further investigation was on.
