After playing a series of negative characters on-screen, actor Jaideep Ahlawat says he does not mind doing the same kind of roles.
The 33-year-old actor, who has starred in films like 'Khatta Meetha', 'Chittagong', 'Gangs of Wasseypur', 'Commando' and 'Vishwaroopam', said the anti-hero roles do not overpower him as an actor.
"I don't mind getting typecast as long as it is not overpowering me as an actor. Cinema and its audience have matured now. Audience want to watch a good performance at the end of the day. We all have grey shades and it depends on the situation you are undergoing," Jaideep told PTI.
Haryana-born Jaideep will be next seen in 'Meeruthiya Gangsters', in which he is essaying the lead role. Directed by debut filmmaker Zeishan Quadri, the film is a gangster drama set in Meerut.
"I am playing a gangster in the film named Nikhil. He is not a born gangster. He is a common man, who falls into a situation which turns him into a gangster. Nikhil is the leader of the gangster group and is educated," he said.
'Meeruthiya Gangsters' is expected to hit theatres on February 20, 2015.
Having been raised in a small town in Rohtak, Jaideep said it was easy for him to understand the lifestyle of a village goon.
"Being born in a small town, you have got many advantages. You get to experience so many things in life. I have seen the dark side of Haryana during my stay there and it helped me to understand the character well. Bedsides that, I had also been to Meerut with Zeishan to prepare for my role," he said.
Jaideep will be seen next in Kamal Haasan's 'Vishwaroopam II', in which he will reprise his earlier role of Salim, and a guest appearance in Akshay Kumar's 'Gabbar'.
