Making Hemlock actor Parambrata Chatterjee debut as playback singer for the first time, 'Chhayamanush' director Arindam Dey says he made most part of the plot looking 'unreal' in the supernatural flick
"It is a tale of intense mystery with dollops of supernaturalism. But not in the Hitchcockian mould. And Param-Kaushik Ganguly (Director) are the two crucial characters in the film. There is also another first - of casting Raima Sen and Paoli Dam as two integral characters in the drama," the acclaimed 'Ajob Prem Ebong Ekti Bus' maker told PTI at the film's premier.
"I sense both of them feel comfortable working with me. Paoli occupies the first half of the film and then vanishes. Raima holds centrestage, thereafter. I had previously worked with both. But here I am the 'Man' in the duo's lives. How, you better watch out," Parambrata said.
"This is first time these two characters share screen space in a film. And their off screen camaradarie shows," the children's film 'Gogol' maker added as afterthought.
About his playback singing debut, Parambrata said, "I know I am nothing but a Glorified Bathroom singer. I prayed but the director felt only my voice could add-up to the scene. I don't know how," the Haoa Badal maker said.
Asked if only hills could be the perfect setting in heightening web of mysticism and horror in films," Arindam said "Yes. The fog and surroundings in hills add up to the apprehension, with things under a veil. I had decided it has to be a hill area and we zeroed on the perfect forest bungalow with a typical worn-out look during a recee. Unfortunately this bungalow had recently been gutted."
Talking on the film, he said, "More than a spooky thriller. You can term Chhayamanush as an overlapping of different genres - horror, story of love and passion and betrayal and also a closer look at the customs of hill area.
