Voicing concern over the "falling standards" in certain sections of the media, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayantoday urged the journalists to identify their weaknesses and correct them from within.
He said this after inaugurating the renovated office building of the Calicut Press Club here.
"There are many who have served the profession with dedication, but the falling standards (of the media) can also be seen among certain sections," Vijayan said.
He added that this needed to be addressed and corrected from within.
The chief minister was all praise for the role of the media during the country's freedom struggle.
"The media scenario has changed a lot with the advent of information technology. Despite the absence of such facilities, publications like 'Mathrubhumi' and'Desabhimani' had contributed immensely to the freedom movement," he said.
Member of Parliament M K Raghavan and MLAs M K Muneer and APradip Kumar were also present on the occasion.
