A powerful improvised explosive device (IED) weighing more than 7kg was recovered today in Assam's Sonitpur district.
Acting on a tip-off, troops of the Red Horns Division launched an extensive search operation and found the IED at Parupota village near Dhekiajuli, a defence release said.
The area was cordoned off by the troops to avert civilian casualties and the IED was defused by an army bomb disposal squad, the release added.
The IED, suspected to have been planted by NDFB(S) militants, was shaped like a large cement ball and was mixed with explosive TNT.
