"The image of police among the common people is not good and they (police) should work towards winning the confidence of people," Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police Rizwan Ahmed told newspersons.
"There are about five per cent policemen in the state whose behaviour was not good and they should bring an improvement in it," Ahmed said, who arrived here to his native Avayana village.
The DGP said police should work above caste or religious considerations in a very unbiased manner.
He said about 21 thousand constables of the state police would be promoted to the post of head constable by February 15 adding soon the state police will start facility to lodge FIR through internet.
