Indian Metals & Ferro Alloys (IMFA) has been awarded 'Green Product' certification by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) for its pioneering effort in producing Low Density Aggregates from fly ash.
The recognition came from CII - Green Product & Services Council at Green Cementech 2016 conference held in Hyderabad recently after evaluating the production process, use of waste material, process efficiency and other environment-friendly measures, a company release said.
Low Density Aggregate (LDA) is an eco-friendly substitute for stone chips.
IMFA has pioneered in LDA in India and the unit at Choudwar -- co-located with the company's captive power plants -- is capable of producing 175 thousand tonnes per annum, it said.
Ashok Behera, Vice President, Head - Corporate Affairs & Legal, said: "We are delighted that our pioneering effort in producing eco-friendly LDA has been recognised. It is a product of the future which will gainfully utilise fly ash while preventing degradation of the environment arising out of stone quarrying. We are already using LDA at our various sites and will step up our marketing efforts."
CII has launched 'GreenPro' Green Product Certification for India in association with UL (Underwriters Laboratories), an independent safety science company, to promote safe living and working environments, the release added.
