A 41-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly duping several heads of civic bodies in Andhra pradesh and Telangana by posing as a government official and taking money from them by promising to secure Central funds under various schemes, police said Sunday.
The accused who posed as the Principal Secretary of Municipal Administration and Urban Development was caught after he cheated the husband of a Chairperson of Suryapet Municipality of Rs 30,000, under the pretext of getting funds for an unemployment allowance scheme, a police release said.
During investigation it was found that the accused, a habitual offender and facing 32 cases in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh adopted similar modus operandi to cheat the heads of Municipalities, the release added.
