India's first community skill park, which provides world-class training facilities for rural youth to improve their employability skills, is all set to be opened in Chavara in Kollam district of Kerala.
Chief Minister Oommen Chandy will inaugurate the Rs 1.5 crore 'Kaushal Kendra' at a function tomorrow.
The Union Government has already shown interest in replicating the centres across the country, a release said here today.
The project is implemented through the state's nodal skill development agency, the Kerala Academy for Skills Excellence (KASE).
Minister for Labour and Skills Shibu Baby John said there would be round-the-year training in various fields with the support of training and industrial partners, with a view to placements, he said.
"This is the first such centre in the country instituted specifically to meet the shortcomings of our educated youth and boost their employability at very nominal costs," he said.
"The first phase will include Kaushal Kendras in Kozhikode, Palakkad and Kannur this year. In the next year, we will follow it up in the rural areas of the other ten districts," he said.
A high-end digital library, tied up with the World e-Library, will ensure access to digitised, authenticated content from across the world, he said.
In association with Hyderabad-based English and Foreign Languages University, the Kendra's language lab would help youth obtain proficiency in English and other foreign languages.
