Assam Governor Jagadish Mukhi has said that India, despite being one of the fastest growing economies in the world, was yet to achieve many of its goals.
"Our nation of more than a billion people is still far from achieving many of its goals and it is the brilliant minds of the youths that will make a difference," the governor said at the second convocation of the Mahatma Gandhi University, Meghalaya, yesterday.
Graduation day is an important event in one's life as "It is a day when you step out in the open from an intellectually stimulating environment of university into the real world, full of contradictions, astounding possibilities and tough challenges," the governor said.
The governor lauded the University's foremost goal to reach to all sections of the society in terms of imparting education, its diverse course structure, a strong faculty and well-defined infrastructure.
He hoped that the university would continue to provide quality education to the students and emerge as a pioneer centre for excellence in the Northeastern region.
The governor also urged the degree holders to contribute to the welfare of the society and the nation.
Director of Indian Institute of Information Technology (Guwahati) Prof Gautam Barua, said that students instead of searching for jobs, should create jobs.
