Indian-Americans have held a 'Get out the Vote' rally in the Silicon Valley in support of Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton and Ro Khanna, who is seeking to enter the House of Representatives, to urge supporters to drive voter turnout.
"We have a historic chance to have a young Indian-American be the face of Silicon Valley in the Congress," said Ajai Jain Bhutoria, an eminent community leader and a major fundraiser for the Hillary Clinton Campaign.
"Ro understands and represents our culture, values. It's a huge opportunity. It's going to redefine our community and open path for future generations to follow Ro's Success," said Bhutoria, the host of the event which also supported other Indian-Americans candidates in the race to various elected offices in the Silicon Valley.
A Yale law graduate and a former official of the Obama administration, Khanna, 40, is pitted against his own party's Mike Honda to represent the 17th Congressional district of California.
If elected, Khanna would be the first Indian- American to be elected to the Congress from Silicon Valley.
Khanna's supporters include top tech firms such as investor Marc Andreessen, Yahoo's Marissa Mayer, Salesforce's Marc Benioff, Facebook's Sheryl Sandberg, and even investor and entrepreneur Keith Rabois.
"Ro is our future. Ro is our voice in the Congress. He understands technology, educational needs and will represent and protect students interests," said Raj, 16, student advisory chair for Ro Khanna.
