With a wealth of paintings, especially watercolours behind him and interesting forays into sculptures, photography and short film making, Maity says there is a huge change in the way art from India is perceived worldwide.
"In the last 30 years, no, let's say in the last one decade there has been a huge change in the contemporary Indian art market. There is a very dynamic language that Indian art is speaking, with many artists earning recognition in the world," the artist told PTI.
Maity has been chosen for the Rs 2,50,000 Dayawati Modi Award for Art, Culture and Education this year.
Born in West Bengal the artist migrated in 1990 to Delhi, which he now calls home. He has since travelled across India and various parts of the world honing his varied artistic interests taking the essence and moving on.
Lately, he has been doing lot of large scale sculptures and installations with different mediums like parts of motor bikes, boats, lanterns, fibre, light and sound, bronze etc.
