Indian attempts suicide after killing wife in Dubai

Upset over failure to bear a child, an Indian national allegedly murdered his wife before slashing his own throat, but failed in his suicide bid after it turned out to be too painful.
The couple, married for 10 years, had a fight after which the husband decided to commit suicide, police said.
The Dubai Police Operation Room on Thursday received information of a murder in a flat in Al Manama area here following which they rushed to the studio flat, the Khaleej Times reported, citing police officials.
When police reached the spot, the husband, who was in his 40s, opened the door and turned himself in.

The man, who was about to establish a trading company and was not identified, was covered in blood while the woman's body was lying on the floor. The woman, identified as M.D, was in her early 30s.
The couple did not have any children and medical reports showed that the man had a medical problem. The wife was upset with the family situation and wanted to have a baby, the report said.

"The accused told the police he had a fight with his wife after which he decided to commit suicide but because he loved her very much and did not want to leave her alone, he decided they would leave the world together.

"On the day of the crime, the woman was sleeping when the man tried to strangle her but she resisted him fiercely. However, she fell unconscious after which the man slit her throat with a knife," the report said.
After she died, the man attempted to do the same but developed cold feet after it proved to be very painful. He later called the police, it said.
