India's ambassador to Egypt Navdeep Suri, while addressing those present, said it was one of the important occasions of the year and the Embassy was keen on inviting its friends in Egypt every year during the month of Ramadan.
"India is a symbol of unity in diversity. We have many people with different religions and cultures live together," he said at the Iftar on Tuesday.
"Personally, I am glad that India has 180 million Muslims, which makes India the second biggest country with Muslim population," he added.
The Embassy regularly organises cultural events to promote Indian culture in Egypt.
However, Ibrahim el Moallem, chairman and founder of Al Shorouk, a publishing group said both countries have to ramp up their efforts in the cultural domain.
India has a great civilisation and culture that should be publicised among Egyptians, he said.
