The unidentified man, who works as a labourer, grabbed a knife and stabbed his roommate in the abdomen after an argument over who would dry their clothes first at their residence in Manama last month.
He said he "froze" when he realised what he had done and saw blood gushing out of his victim's wound.
"We started shouting at each other because we both wanted to hang our clothes to dry," he said in his statement to prosecutors.
Police later arrested him and took his roommate to a nearby hospital. The victim survived after undergoing surgery.
A Lower Criminal Court convicted him of assault and sentenced him yesterday, the Gulf Daily News reported.
"The defendant was not accused of attempted murder because it happened during a simple argument," said the court verdict.
"The defendant did not plan to kill his victim and his victim did not receive a permanent injury, therefore we find him guilty of assault and not attempted murder.
