A rally team of Indian Navy's Social Outreach Programme "Coast to Coast", which arrived at the Indian Naval Academy at Ezhimala in Kannur district, as part of celebrations to commemorate the Platinum Jubilee of INS Valsura, was flagged-off today.
The team was formally received by Captain Sumeet Kapoor, Training Captain (Co-ord), Indian Naval Academy, yesterday, an INA release said today.
The team members in five cars will cover more than 6,000 km, touching all major Naval establishments and places of maritime heritage en route.
The team wouldinteract with the local people, war veterans and navalwidows during the course of their trip and also visit schools and colleges to spread awareness about Indian Navy.
INS Valsura is a 75-year-old establishment of the Indian Navy located at Jamnagar in Gujarat.
It is a premier training institute for the Electrical Engineers of the Indian Navy with a rich maritime heritage, dating back to pre-Independence India of 1942, when the British Navy set up a Torpedo School on December 1942 and named it Val-Sura from the Tamil words 'Val'(Sword) and 'Surah' (Fish).
The rally was flagged off in the morning by Vice Admiral S V Bhokare, Commandant of the INA. It would reach the Headquarters of Southern Naval Command, Kochi, after its visit to Kozhikode, the release added.
