Baki Patel runs Jacob's Food Mart in Gastonia with her husband, Sanjay Patel. She was working alone at 8:50 pm on Wednesday when a man entered the store armed with a handgun.
The man demanded all the money they had in the drawer, Sanjay said, even money from a bottom drawer most customers don't know about, Gaston Gazette reported.
Surveillance video captured the encounter between Baki Patel and the gunman. Baki Patel puts her hands in the air as the man points the gun at her before collecting the cash and retreating.
Police said are looking for the gunman.
"It's upsetting," Sanjay said. "Very scary".
The black male wore a blue T-shirt and had a bandana covering most of his face.
