Goa Police has ordered an inquiry against one of its officers after a video, in which he is allegedly seen kicking and abusing the kin of a drowning victim, went viral on social media, a senior official said today.
"An inquiry has been initiated against sub-inspector Sudin Redkar after a video, showing him abusing a man, came to the notice of the department. The inquiry will be conducted by Superintendent of Police (South) Arvind Gawas," Director General of Police Muktesh Chander told reporters here today.
He added that as a preliminary measure, Redkar had been transferred from Sanguem police station, where he was posted at the time of the incident, to Goa Reserve Police.
In the video clip, Redkar, who is in uniform, is seen using abusive language and kicking a man who is the relative of a person who had died of drowning, said an official.
The clip also shows the drowning victim's body lying on the ground, close to where the PSI is standing, the official added.
Redkar is also the subject of an earlier inquiry, which is still underway, for allegedly assaulting a person in police custody, officials informed.
