Inspector beaten up by constable inside police station

A police inspector was beaten allegedly by a constable who was reportedly in an inebriated state inside a police station here, a senior police officer said today.
The incident took place in the wee hours at Worli police station when the accused Subhash Misal, a beat marshal assaulted Inspector (Crime) Jayant Sawant, when the latter suspected that Misal was under the influence of alcohol, DCP (Detection) Dhananjay Kulkarni said.
Sawant instructed a sub-inspector to take Misal for a medical test. Following this, in a fit of rage, Misal attacked the inspector and beat him up using a bamboo stick. The staff present at the police station intervened and rescued the inspector, police said.

According to them, Sawant who suffered minor injuries was rushed to the hospital and later discharged.
A case under relevant sections of IPC has been registered and a departmental inquiry has been initiated against the accused cop, police added.
