Chip maker Intel will work with the Indian government to create digital literates across 1,000 panchayats, a move that will impact five million citizens by the end of 2015.
As part of its 'Digital Skills for India' programme, Intel India has unveiled a digital skills training application, which includes modules on digital literacy, financial inclusion, healthcare and cleanliness in 5 Indian languages.
The app will be available free on Android Play Store from December 6 in Hindi, English, Marathi, Gujarati, Tamil and Kannada.
A similar offline training module will also be made available in seven Indian languages.
Intel India will also work with Bharat Broadband Network Limited (BBNL) to build capacity by imparting digital literacy training to key resource persons in the first 1,000 panchayats under the National Optic Fiber Network roll-out in India.
"We believe that the government's Digital India vision is going to be imperative to propel India into its next phase of growth. Skill development and innovation are imperative for realising the Digital India vision," Intel Vice President Sales and Marketing Group and Managing Director South Asia Debjani Ghosh told reporters here.
For digital transformation to be completed, it is imperative that government and corporates work together in creating a sustainable model for digital education, Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DeitY) Secretary R S Sharma said.
Intel has also announced the 'Innovate For India Challenge', which will be launched next year, to create solutions that are relevant for the country.
In 2012, the US-based firm had launched the National Digital Literacy Mission, under which, it has reached 38 lakh citizens.
