Intensified Diarrhoea Control Fortnight begins in Nagaland

Intensified Diarrhoea Control Fortnight (IDCF) was launched in Nagaland today.
IDCF would be carried out throughout the state from today to August 8 and during the period, health workers would be reaching out to children below five years of age, Principal Director of Health and Family Welfare Dr G Kemp said at the launching function here.
Stating that though childhood diarrhoeal diseases continued to be one of the major killers among under five children in many states contributing to 11 per cent of under five deaths in the country, Dr Kemp suggested a homemade and natural remedy.
Proper breast feeding for the first six months of an infant, and water mixed with a pinch of salt and sugar would help a child fight against diarrhoea, he said.

Naga Mothers' Association joint secretary Malsawmthangi Leyri expressed hope that the programme would bring about radical change in fighting diarrhoea and also appealed to the people to maintain hygiene.
