Stressing the need to retrieve temples from the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR and CE) department, senior BJP leader H Raja said official interference in spiritual matters in temples was on the rise.
The HR and CE officials were not doing enough to enhance the revenue of the temples under their purview, he alleged.
Addressing a public meeting at Srirangam near here late last night Raja said, "The officials are supposed to maintain the temples and its properties and generate revenue, but they are interfering in spiritual affairs."
